Lorenza Rose

Our wish from first vintage of Lorenza in 2008 was to work with old vines to bring a sense of serious complexity and longevity to our delicate and feminine wine. A visual contrast. As a result Lorenza sources fruit from several vineyards over 100 years old in the Lodi area. The Bechthold Vineyard was planted in 1847 and actually only recently identified as Cinsault. Lorenza sources a precious few bins of this important pear-like component each year. The beautiful and expressive Grenache is planted in deep white sandy soil (think beach) with a history going way back before prohibition. The old, gnarled Carignan vines tell a long story and deliver a bright fresh burst of activity on the palate and crazy color from the skins. Recently more thoughtfully farmed, the fruit is more balanced and complete than in years past. The Mourvedre is farmed by an ambitious farmer with many varietals in his sandy soil. An important textural component for Lorenza, we get the only two rows he grows; they are the younger vines in this group.
